How will the Digital World look like After the Pandemic?

Image
COVID-19 has severely impacted businesses across the globe. But one thing has become clear: it has accelerated digital transformation, which should change all our lives for the better. This was the message from the Orange Business Services European Digital Transformation Forum (EDTF) . As millions get used to the new normal of lockdown life, our digital lives may never be the same again. From video conference calls with family, watching as kids learn via online education to streaming online workouts, lots of things have changed — and post-pandemic, some of these habits are likely to stick. “We just assumed that certain services in our society and our economy were provided in-person and required co-location. And I think those assumptions are now radically being challenged,” according to Carsten Wierwille, CEO of digital product developer Us...

Juptier and Saturn are Conjoining to create a Once-in-a-Lifetime Phenomenon TODAY!

Juptier and Saturn are Conjoining to create a Once-in-a-Lifetime Phenomenon TODAY! https://youtu.be/M028fZWm3lQ -WATCH IT LIVE ONLINE ON YOUTUBE! The December 21, 2020 great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn is highly conspicuous in the west after sunset each evening now. On December 21, the pair will be only 0.1 degree apart. Some say the pair will look like an elongated star on that date. Will they? Or will they look like a double planet? Now, here’s why these great Jupiter/Saturn conjunctions happen every 20 years. Each year, Saturn completes about 12 degrees of its orbit around the sun, whereas Jupiter completes about 30 degrees. Therefore, in one year, Jupiter closes the gap between itself and Saturn by about 18 degrees (30 – 12 = 18 degrees). In a period of 20 years, then, Jupiter gains 360 degrees on Saturn (18 x 20 = 360 degrees), therefore lapping the ringed planet once every 20 years. Skygazers should be ready for the last and most prominent celestial event of the year 20...

Long-Sought Blood Test for Alzheimer’s on its Way!

Long-Sought Blood Test for Alzheimer’s on its Way! Scientists said Monday they had developed a way of predicting if patients will develop Alzheimer's disease by analysing their blood, in what experts hailed as a potential " game-changer " in the fight against the debilitating condition. Scientists say such tests could be available in a few years, speeding research for treatments and providing a diagnosis for dementia patients who want to know if they have Alzheimer’s disease. Around 50 million people live with Alzheimer's, a degenerative brain disease that accounts for more than half of global dementia cases. While its precise mechanism is not fully understood, Alzheimer's appears to result from the accumulation of proteins in the brain that are thought to lead to the death of neurons. Some of these proteins are traceable in the blood of patients and tests based on their concentrations can be used to diagnose the disease. A company has started selling the first ...

Global Warming to Raise Disease Risk for Animals?

Global Warming to Raise Disease Risk for Animals? Changes in climate can increase infectious disease risk in animals, researchers found -- with the possibility that these diseases could spread to humans, they warn. The study, conducted by scientists at the University of Notre Dame, University of South Florida and University of Wisconsin-Madison, supports a phenomenon known as "thermal mismatch hypothesis," which is the idea that the greatest risk for infectious disease in cold climate-adapted animals -- such as polar bears -- occurs as temperatures rise, while the risk for animals living in warmer climates occurs as temperatures fall. The study, published in the journal 'Science', supports a phenomenon known as "thermal mismatch hypothesis," which is the idea that the greatest risk for infectious disease in cold climate-adapted animals -- such as polar bears -- occurs as temperatures rise. The hypothesis proposes that smaller organisms like pathogens function...

Another Pandemic for Kerala ? Here's the "Nipah Virus"!

Another Pandemic for Kerala ? Here's the "Nipah Virus"! As the world grapples with the coronavirus pandemic, researchers have found the presence of a different kind of coronavirus -- bat coronavirus (BtCoV) -- in two bat species from Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, according to a first of its study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).   The deadly Nipah virus kills nearly 75 per cent of the people it infects, but the circumstances under which the bat species, known as the Indian flying fox, transmits the virus to humans has remained a mystery. Now, a six-year, multidisciplinary study has revealed how the Nipah virus, which claimed the lives of 17 people in Kerala in 2018, spreads among fruit bats -- findings which can help predict when the pathogen may spillover to humans.  The Nipah virus is an illness that is transmitted to people from animals, and can also be transmitted through contaminated food or directly from person-to-pers...
