How will the Digital World look like After the Pandemic?

COVID-19 has severely impacted businesses across the globe. But one thing has become clear: it has accelerated digital transformation, which should change all our lives for the better. This was the message from the Orange Business Services European Digital Transformation Forum (EDTF) .

As millions get used to the new normal of lockdown life, our digital lives may never be the same again.
From video conference calls with family, watching as kids learn via online education to streaming online workouts, lots of things have changed — and post-pandemic, some of these habits are likely to stick.

“We just assumed that certain services in our society and our economy were provided in-person and required co-location. And I think those assumptions are now radically being challenged,” according to Carsten Wierwille, CEO of digital product developer Ustwo, who spoke to CNBC by phone.
People can expect better service from businesses that have had to hone online customer experience, improve digital entertainment and create easier ways to buy big-ticket items — but on the flipside, we might also become less protective of our personal data, according to some experts.

The shift to a digitally dependent remote workforce across numerous industries was instantaneous for organizations after the COVID-19 pandemic spread, and after months of adapting, this way of life has become “a new normal.” IT professionals are facing unprecedented pressure to meet the increased demands they are experiencing now and preparing for the changes that will continue after the pandemic, such as enabling remote employees and driving the business. This presents an immense opportunity for these professionals to make a change.
Applications of our E-World

The rapid spread of technology accelerated by the pandemic has led to a pressing need for businesses and governments to adapt. Many businesses, especially in developing economies, are digitally disconnected. They may not have access to workers with the right skills and face challenging business environments. Workers, on the other hand, have little protection and do not have the skills or flexibility in labor markets to adapt. To face these challenges, businesses need to embrace technology and upgrade training programs to equip their workers with the best skills. Technology can be a boon to society if businesses and governments prepare and adapt. The pandemic has pushed societies to an inflection point where embracing technology is no longer an option but a necessity. It has also made workers more vulnerable. With the right steps and actions, businesses and governments can take the crisis as an opportunity to build for the future.
